WASHINGTON - A special election will be held on April 22 to fill the U.S House seat formerly held by U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, according to Gov. Haley Barbour’s office.
Wicker left Mississippi’s First Congressional District seat late last year when he was appointed to the Senate seat vacated by Trent Lott.
The winner would serve in Congress through the end of the year, when Wicker’s term was to expire.
Barbour set the date. His office said March 7 is the filing deadline for candidates.
An election for the next two-year term for the seat will be held Nov. 4. The primaries for both parties for that election will be held March 11.
