Gov. Mike Easley, D-N.C., joked with reporters Sunday, saying he was ready to make an endorsement in the 2008 race. He will not be backing Sen. John McCain, he said at the National Governors Association winter meetings in Washington.

Easley said he did not expect superdelegates to decide the Democratic contest, but he said that if the race did come down to superdelegates, he would not cast his superdelegate vote based on the state's Democratic primary vote. North Carolina holds its primaries on May 6.
