In his first term in Congress, Rep. Gerald Connolly has a full plate. The former chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is holding down three committee assignments – Foreign Affairs, Budget, and Oversight and Government Reform. The oversight committee is critical to his suburban Washington district with its numerous government contractors and federal employees.
Connolly, 58, is the newly elected president of the House freshman class, a largely ceremonial post but one that confers some clout on the first Democrat to represent Fairfax in Congress in more than a decade. Connolly graduated from Maryknoll College in Illinois, and received a Masters degree in public administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
