Rep. Eric I. Cantor, R-7th, introduced today an economic stimulus bill focused on tax breaks for businesses.

The “Middle Class Jobs Protection Act” would cut the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent, according to Cantor, giving business “the tools they need to invest in our economy and create jobs.”

Democrats have been considering adding funds for unemployment programs and sending money to the states to work on hardest-hit local economies. Cantor took direct aim at those plans, saying Democrats would simply “expand the safety net,” and urging Congress to do more than “writing checks to states.”
