Welcome to You’re the Pundit. Here is where we start a conversation. It’s your turn. Share your ideas, ask questions and answer them.

Every week we post a question ripped from the news pages. Hit us with your best shot—of opinion—or react to someone else’s views. Either way, help us think through the issues of the day.

Let’s keep it civil—and have some fun.

This week’s question: Pollsters say most people believe the country is going in the wrong direction. What should the next president do to put the United States back on the right track?

Get us out of Iraq quickly and focus our resources on developing an alternative to oil.

1.  Slowly remove troops from Iraq.  (This should be the first goal to fund the rest.)
2.  Ensure immigration reform has been authored and put in place; increase diplomatic relations with countries such as Mexico and countries represented by large immigrant populations.  (This is the second goal.  The rest are all equally important and are in no particular order.)
3.  Crack down on unethical banks that have hi-jacked the housing and student loan industries.
4.  Return standard consumer protections to student loans and crack down on unethical schools.
5.  Ensure every resident has health insurance and/or access to quality health care.
6.  Ensure every resident has access to mental health care and support services.
7.  Implement real plans to raise the socioeconomic status and well-being of the hungry, needy, elderly, disabled and homeless
8.  Enforce and create environmentally conscious solutions including mandating alternate sources of energy.
9.  Educate, educate, educate!
10.  Inspire us all to WANT to do these things through encouraging active participation in government and community action.

BTW, thanks for creating this forum!  It’s great, and spell check is very much appreciated!!

McCain will have a better chance doing it than Obama, since he’ll make less sudden changes from recent policies. Obama’s change could make a bad situation worse, like Jimmy Carter did following Gerald Ford.
