Gov. Tim Kaine said today "it’s very unlikely" Obama will ask him to join the Democratic ticket.
Speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press," Virginia's governor declined to reveal any recent conversations he has had with the Obama campaign.
"I think my highest and best use is right in Virginia," he said.
Some observers read Obama's naming former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner as a keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention as a sign that Obama would not pick another Virginian as his running mate, ending Kaine's hopes.
