Obama’s mind is not made up on the VP question, according to former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle.
Daschle, speaking on behalf of the Obama campaign today at a roundtable with regional reporters in Washington, said Obama is likely to announce his running mate next week.
The South Dakota Democrat said Virginia is the “best example” of a place where the Obama campaign’s 50-state strategy is working.
“Four years ago, if you’d have said we’re going to put nine offices in (rural) Virginia, they would have said, ‘What are you thinking? That’s crazy.’ But … we think we have a reasonable chance of winning Virginia or we wouldn’t put all that investment in,” Daschle said.
He compared Virginia to a host of states President Bush won in 2004: Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, and Colorado.
“These are purple states that are very winnable for us,” Daschle said.
